The Role

As our new Software Development Manager, you will be part of our Architecture team, working closely with colleagues in Product Management and other internal and external stakeholders. You will report to our Chief Architect.  You will be focused on managing and measuring the Company’s development and testing resource. Implementing and planning the strategy for new products in development, ensuring releases are developed to specification, on time, to budget and within quality limits.

This role is hybrid with an expectation to attend our offices as needed to meet colleagues to collaborate.  The majority of your time can be spent at home.  As part of the BSL team, you will have ample opportunity to learn and utilise cutting edge technologies and platforms and work with amazing colleagues at our City office.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the team has appropriate product and technical specifications, direction, and resources to deliver products effectively by establishing realistic estimates for timelines while ensuring that projects remain on target to meet deadlines.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance.
  • Resource Management for current projects and future ‘pipeline’.
  • Monitor individual employees’ performance and identify and deal with training and development issues.
  • Assist team in resolving technical problems.
  • Project Manage the delivery of software products through the entire development lifecycle to release.
  • Sourcing and managing internal and external IT resources possibly including an offshore development team.
  • Act as the central point of contact for other departments on development project status including reporting on progress and status against plan to the Product Manager and Senior Management when required.
  • Responsible for release management/version control and ensuring release notes for each version are documented. Version control of documentation must be tied in with software versions.
  • Implementation of agile software development and agile product development processes, practices and tools.
  • Manage Sprints and conduct regular Sprint review meetings
  • Being an adviser and influencer for software and product development methods across the organisation.
  • Responsibility for budgetary control and reporting for the Software Development function.

  • You are comfortable with working in a fast paced, growth-oriented company
  • You have a minimum of:
    – 5 years experience working in a dev team
    – 1 years experience in a team leadership role that includes hiring, performance management, coaching and career development
  • A strong background in:
    -.NET, Azure and Windows
    – Agile Scrum
    – Software development life cycle
  • A knowledge of:
    – CI\CD
    – SaaS
    – REST APIs
    – Code branching and release management
    – Databases with large datasets
    – Confluence and Jira
